North Texas Giving Day
THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to Cistercian through North Texas Giving Day!!! Once again, the strength of the Cistercian community shown bright for all of North Texas to see.
The response from current parents, alumni, and alumni parents was absolutely overwhelming, with $672,681 raised from 767 donors! Amazingly enough, this is yet another new record fundraising day for the School. The Communities Foundation of Texas (CFT) will provide an additional percentage of bonus funds on top of the money we raised yesterday, so our final number will be even higher.
Thank you! We sincerely appreciate such a strong show of support in helping us to continue our mission of educating fine young men in the Cistercian tradition.
Alumni/Alumni Parent Christmas Party
Save the Date! Saturday, December 16
Save Saturday, December 16, for the Alumni/Alumni Parent Christmas Party. Festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m., so make plans to come out and celebrate with us!
Alumni vs. Varsity Basketball Game
Saturday, December 16, 4:00-6:00 p.m.
The basketball staff invites all alumni basketball players to join us for a game against this year's Varsity team. Depending upon the number of alumni competitors, we should be able to form multiple teams and use both gyms if necessary. This will be an exhibition, so come with the desire to have fun - no injuries allowed! An RSVP to Craig Sklar by December 11 would be helpful so he can gather up enough jerseys for alumni.
This game will be immediately before the Alumni Christmas Party which starts at 6:30 p.m. in the lunchroom. The locker room and showers will be open, so plan to play ball, clean up, and join us in the lunchroom for food, friends, and fun!
Classic Cistercian Theology Textbooks Available
The theology curriculum at CPS has always been a living and evolving reality. However, in honor of Fr. Roch's retirement after some 30 years as Theology Department Head in 2013, Abbot Peter decided to print the set of textbooks (from Form I to Form VIII) as they stood in 2013 as permanent references for the Abbey and School libraries.
Since it has occurred to us that some alumni and families would like copies of this for their own reading, or even the education of their children, we would like to open this opportunity to our alumni and alumni parents. We will be selling grade level books individually for $10 each or the set of eight bound individually for $70. If you are interested in ordering, please email Erin Hart.
Cistercian Literary Club
Wednesday, November 15 at 5:30 p.m.
Barry McCain '02 and Andrew Kahn '95 will host the Cistercian Literary Club's fall gathering at the Old Monk on Wednesday, November 15, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
The Beautiful and Damned, first published by Scribner's in 1922, is F. Scott Fitzgerald's second novel. It portrays the Eastern elite during the Jazz Age, exploring New York café society. As in Fitzgerald's other novels, the characters are complex, especially with respect to marriage and intimacy. The book is believed to be largely based on Fitzgerald's relationship with Zelda Fitzgerald. The Beautiful and Damned tells the story of Anthony Patch, a 1910s socialite and presumptive heir to a tycoon's fortune, his relationship with his wife, Gloria, his service in the army, and his alcoholism.
An engaging read, interesting discussion, and cooler weather--not a bad way to spend a Wednesday evening. Hope to see you at the Old Monk!
Jim and Lynn Moroney Award Dinner
Saturday, January 20, 2018
We are honored to announce that Tom Pruit will receive an honorary Cistercian diploma at the 2018 Jim and Lynn Moroney Award Dinner. The dinner will be held at the Tower Club at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018.
So that we can fully honor Dr. Pruit and his service to the School, we will not award the typical Jim and Lynn Moroney Award to an alumnus this year. The traditional spirit of this evening will remain the same since the award is given to one "whose spiritual commitment to Cistercian is very much aflame and whose dedicated work on behalf of the Cistercian family enkindles our hope for the future." Dr. Pruit exemplifies this spirit.
Invitations will be mailed in early January, but mark your calendar now!

If you are an alumnus looking for a position in a certain field or city, feel free to use our Linked In page to post your information to see if any other members of the group (alumni or alumni parents) can help. Stay connected to the community - there are lots of great resources there!
