Summer Strength and Conditioning Camp for Upper School Students

Coaches Andre Bruce and Malcolm Dotson are again going to be conducting a strength and conditioning camp this summer for students enrolled in the Upper chool for the fall of 2012. We would like to invite students of Cistercian who are interested in increasing muscular strength, endurance, speed, and agility to attend this camp. The camp will be six weeks long, meeting three days per week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) for two hours per session. There will be three different times for the sessions offered. The cost of the camp is $150 per student. For complete details and registration, click here.

Fall 2012 Electives Choices - Upper School

It is already time to begin looking at the fall semester elective courses your son will take. The Upper School faculty have once again come up with offerings that cover the entire spectrum of interest, from The History of Baseball, to Earth, Wind and Fire: Natural Disasters, to Introduction to Finance. Please look over the course descriptions here and discuss them with your sons. Hard copies of these descriptions have been distributed to the Upper School students this week.

Registration for electives will occur during the week of May 15 - May 18 in order of seniority by Form and in random order within a given Form. Students should have second or even third choices in mind in case their first choice is already taken or doesn't make. (The School requires that a class have at least six students.) Again, please discuss your son's choice with him in advance. No parent signature is required for registration in an elective.

Library Books and Materials Due Wed., May 16

Items may not be checked out from the library after NEXT Wednesday, May 16. All materials are due on that date. If students need materials for study, they may make arrangements in the library.

Beginning Wednesday, May 16, the library will be available to the students for the following reasons:

  • To clear library records.
  • To make necessary copies.
  • To study quietly and individually.
  • To do assigned work when sent by a teacher.
  • To quickly make use of computers.

Thank you for your help as we close the library for the end of the school year. We have certainly appreciated your continued support throughout the year.

Golf Tournament Registration Still Open

Register here for the 10th Hawks Booster Club and Alumni Golf Tournament.

Come out and participate in our four-player Florida Scramble at Bear Creek Golf Club (near DFW Airport) on June 1.

How a Florida Scramble is played: each player tees off on each hole. The best of the tee shots is selected and all players play their second shots from that spot. The best of the second shots is determined, then all play their third shots from that spot, and so on until the ball is holed. In other words, EVERYONE can participate and be a great golfer for the day!

Cost: $175 for adults and $140 for students. Entry fee includes green fees, cart, range balls and dinner.

For those not playing golf, please join us for the awards dinner following the tournament. Dinner is $20 and may be purchased on the registration page.

Registration begins at 1:00 p.m.

Shotgun Start at 2:00 p.m.

Awards Dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit the Tom Hillary and Colin Stone '13 Scholarships.

Dotson Wins Work of Heart Award

Mr. Malcolm Dotson has received the "Work of Heart" Award from the Catholic Foundation. Work of Heart recipients are selected from written nominations submitted to the Catholic Foundation and judged based on traditional merit criteria including tenure and leadership, acts of kindness or charity, Christian example, mentoring and simply going the extra mile for an individual student, family or the community.

Mr. Ed M. Schaffler, President of the Catholic Foundation, states that "In each of our local Catholic schools, teachers, mentors and role models make a positive difference in the lives of children. Whether it is in the classroom, the front office or the hallway, there are educators and staff members who go above and beyond. The Catholic Foundation is honored to provide them with a special thank you and extra recognition for their service. We hope other parents and community members will join us in this show of appreciation."

In addition to his coaching duties, Mr. Dotson is the PE instructor for Form I, and he teaches Form II Computer. He is completing his sixth year at Cistercian.
