Introduction

The Mandelbrot Contest is one of most highly regarded national math contests for high school students.  Especially valuable are the team contests which feature proof and explanation of fascinating results.  Cistercian has participated regularly since the fall of 1999, twice winning the national championship for level B in the small school division (under 500 students in Upper School).

Mandelbrot Final Results 2002-2003

Level A  

         Team Members:  Gary Darby, David Harding, Jeff Judge, Robert Reagan, Michael Tinker

        Results:  15th in the nation among schools under 500

Level B

         Team Members:  John Davies, James Peacock, Chandan Vangala, Arthur Yang

          Assisted by esp:  Prasanth Pattisapu, Justin Ramirez, Brett Naul, and Chris McGowan

         Results:  First in Nation among all small school (<500) and private schools!  7th in Nation overall

Individual Results:  John Davies finished 5th in the Nation

Level A  

         Team Members:  James Connor, Anthony Ngo, Adam Reeves,   Kevin Resnick

        Results:  11th in the nation among schools under 500

Level B

         Team Members:  Gary Darby, John Davies, James Peacock, Michael Tinker

          Assisted by esp:  Chandan Vangala, Brett Naul, Arthur Yang, Justin Ramirez

         Results: 10 in the nation among schools under 500

          Alternates:  Travis Bayer, Chris Fronda, Clint Bodien, Kevin Resnick

          Results:  1st in Texas among all schools; 4th in nation among schools under 500; 17 overall in the nation!

Level B

         Team Members:  James Connor, Giancarlo Colombo, Guy Krug, Michael Tinker

          Assisted by:  Adam Reeves, Anthony Ngo, John Davies, Chandan Vangala

          Results:  1st in Texas among all schools, 4th in nations among schools under 500; 17th overall!  Same as Level A!  (one team listed was from Romania!!)

Mandelbrot Final Results 1999-2000

Level B Teams Wins National Championship in the Small School Division(<500) !!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats to team members David Daly, Bill Finkenkeller, Adam Harris, and captain Michael O'Brien.  They also placed 7th overall out of 70 of the top schools in the country.

They were assisted by the fine individual results of James Connor, Anthony Ngo, Adam Reeves, and Michael Tinker.

The varsity A team placed 5th in the nation in the small school division. Congrats to Chris Edgemon, and seniors Richard Guiltinan, Grady McGahan, and captain Allen Wan, and alternates Dominic Seitz and Tanner Murrey.
