Cistercian Community Service

James M. Collins Service Award

The James M. Collins Service Award, established in 1996, is presented annually to the one junior who by personal example and concern for others has most promoted the spirit of community service among Cistercian students. A native of Dallas, the son of teachers, and a World War II veteran, Mr. Collins was elected to the United States Congress 8 times, and represented the district in which Cistercian lies. In naming the endowment and award for her father, Mrs. Nancy Collins Fisher wanted to encourage the values he held so high: faith in God, commitment to his family, service to others, and excellence in education.
