College Counseling at Cistercian
Summer 2008
The college counseling office at Cistercian has received information about several opportunities for the upper school boys for the summer of 2008. This listing is purely informational. Many boys will spend time with family this summer, pursue their hobbies, their own reading, athletics, employment and volunteer work. We hope the boys will relax and take the time to enjoy whatever experiences they choose to pursue.

- Offers a National Youth Summit this summer.

- The University of Alabama
- Offers a summer engineering camp for rising high school juniors and seniors interested in science, math and engineering.

- Boston University
- Offers two programs for high school students-
- HIGH SCHOOL HONORS is for rising high school seniors. It is a six week residential program in which students can either take two BU undergraduate courses, earning up to 8 credits, or conduct scientific research.
- Summer challenge is a two-week residential program for entering sophomores, juniors or seniors. Students enroll in two non-credit seminars.

- Colorado College
- offers a wide variety of summer courses in three blocks: June 9-27, June 30-July 18 or July 21-August 8.

- Boston University
- Program in Mathematics for Young Scientists from June 29-August 9.
- BU offers an intensive experience in creative mathematical exploration to 65 ambitious high school students with an exceptionally strong interest in mathematic.

- The Thomas More College of Liberal Arts
- 2008 Summer program for High School Students- Experience the Great ideas within the Great tradition, July 13-26 and July 27-August 9.

- The University of Southern California
- offers a summer Seminars programs allowing rising juniors and seniors a chance to sample college life and to earn university credit.
- Some examples of the summer ’08 offerings are as follows: Photography, Journalism, and Intro to Video Game Design.

- Franklin College in Lugano, Switzerland
- offers a wide variety of summer offerings. Two sessions are offered: May 26-June 26 or June 30-July 31.
- A sampling of course offerings include: Art and Art History, Business, Communications, Foreign Languages, International Relations, Literature and Creative Writing and a Field Studies course in Archeology.

- The New York Film Academy
- offers summer camps for film and acting.

- Duke University
- offers the TIP program for grades 9-12.
- U.S. Institutes include: creative writing, filmmaking, astronomy, computer science, leadership institute and pre-law institute, among others.
- The International Field Studies program includes courses in Architecture in Italy, World Politics in England, Global Economy in China and Medicine and Ecology in Costa Rica.

- The University of Texas at Austin
- offers a special program: MITE: an Introduction to Engineering 2008.
- This program is free of charge and is open to students who have overcome any social or economic hardships as well as outstanding African American, Hispanic and Native American students.
- UT offers two sessions: June 8-13 and June 15-20.

- This program is open to current sophomores and juniors.
- SMU
- offers college credit courses this summer to high school students after their 10th or 11th grade years.

- ACTION QUEST
- offers two summer programs.
- ACTIONQUEST and Lifeworks offer programs to build leadership skills and self-reliance.
- ActionQuest is run primarily aboard sailing vessels.
- LifeQuest is mainly land-based and offers up to 100 hours of community service.

- Georgetown University
- hosts many strong summer programs for high school students including programs in International Relations, Business, American Politics and National Security and Intelligence.

- offers a Liberal Arts summer Program for students who will have finished their sophomore year in high school.

- Notre Dame Summer Scholars Program
- Open to high school students entering their junior or senior years of high school who are at least 16 years old.
