Friends of Cistercian wishing to make gifts in honor of or in memory of a friend or relative might consider donating to one of Cistercians many established scholarship funds, other School or Abbey funds:
Form Masters Scholarship
This scholarship fund was established and endowed in 2005 by a family wishing to remain anonymous to honor the unique Cistercian Form Master system and all of its form masters.
General Scholarship Fund
The Cistercian general scholarship fund was established so that donations can be made in memory or in honor of anyone. Like all Cistercian scholarship funds, these funds help pay tuition for students who otherwise could not afford to attend the School.
Reeves Hall 99 Scholarship
This scholarship fund was established in memory of John Reeves Hall '99, a computer programmer and aeronautics enthusiast who passed away in September 2005. This scholarship was formaly endowed in 2007.
Ed Haller 91 Scholarship
This scholarship fund was established by the generosity of Ed’s family, classmates and friends and and was formally endowed in 2006.
The Jim and Emily Hartnett Scholarship
This scholarship fund was formally endowed in 2006 to honor Mr. and Mrs. James J. Hartnett, Sr. Mr. Hartnett was a longtime member of the School Board whose support and counsel continue to guide the school.
Seth Henderson 03 Scholarship
This scholarship fund was established in 2003 in memory of Seth Henderson ‘03 and was formally endowed in 2004.
Coach Hillary Award
This annual award, given at the upper school Athletic Banquet, was named in memory of Coach Tom Hillary, Cistercian Athletic Director and football coach from 1984-2000. The award was formally endowed in 2005.
Fr. Pascal Kis-Horvath Scholarship
This scholarship fund was named in honor of Fr. Pascal, a longtime assistant at St. Monicas parish and a close friend of Mr. and Mrs. Ray French. The fund was endowed in 2003 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to provide scholarships for minority students.
Marton Brothers Scholarship
This scholarship fund was established by an anonymous donor in March 2005 in honor of Frs. Henry and Bernard Marton, Cistercian priests who were also blood brothers.
The Bryan F. Smith Scholarship
This scholarship fund was originally established to honor Mr. Bryan F. Smith, one of Cisterican founders and the father of five alumni. Upon the passing of Mrs. June E. "Beth" Smith in 2004, additional memorial gifts were added to the scholarship. Mr. Smith passed away in 2007. He was a tireless and consistently generous supporter of Cisterican in ways too numerous to count.
Fr. Damian Szödényi Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship fund was established in memory of Cistercians first headmaster, Fr. Damian, who was also an accomplished artist and sculptor.
Dee Walker 97 Scholarship
This scholarship was established almost ten years ago and formally endowed in 2007 named in memory of Dee Walker ’97.
Mark Cochran ’97 Scholarship
This fund, which is nearing endowment, was stablished by the family and friends of Mark Cochran '97, an engineer, photographer and pilot. At Cistercian, Mark excelled in photography and won a Hawk Award by lettering in cross country, soccer and baseball.
Other Funds
Professional Development Fund
Monies donated to this special fund go toward professional development for Cistercian faculty and staff.
Library
Gifts can be designated for the
Cistercian
Preparatory School
library, helping defray the cost of books and other library materials and programs. Particularly important are the annual Christmas Book Program and the annual Book Fair each March.
Various School Programs and Activities
Gifts can also be earmarked for numerous school activities and programs, such as Athletics, Quiz Bowl, The Informer, (student newspaper) the Exodus (yearbook), Reflections (the literary magazine), fine arts (including drama and photography), BraveArt (fine arts festival), and other student programs.
Gifts to the Abbey
Gifts to the Abbey, unless otherwise specified, go toward the education of novices and junior monks, of whom there are now eleven studying and living in the monastery.
