Winter SPC Tournament -- Houston
February 9 - 11, 2017
The winter athletic season will culminate in Houston next week with the varsity soccer team and the varsity swim team already holding secured spots. The varsity basketball team will compete this weekend for a spot at SPC, while the soccer team is focused on securing first place in the North Zone!
While final brackets will be finalized after this weekend's games, complete schedule information can be found on the SPC Website and will be updated throughout the remainder of the season and during the tournament.
Fr. Bernard Helping in Hungary
We only had Fr. Bernard back on campus for a short time before he was asked by the Abbot General of the Cistercian Order to return to Hungary. Specifically, Fr. Bernard has been appointed as an assistant to the administrator of the Abbey of Zirc to aid in rebuilding that monastic community. It is a daunting challenge which Fr. Bernard has generously accepted. After a round of goodbyes, he departed earlier this week. The duration of his absence from Dallas is not fixed, but could be as long as one year.
Please keep Fr. Bernard and the Abbey of Zirc in your prayers that his efforts may bear lasting fruit. We will miss him!
Jim & Lynn Moroney Award Dinner
Everyone enjoyed a great evening at this year's Jim and Lynn Moroney Award Dinner honoring Charles Lipscomb '84. Introduced by David Brodrick '85, Charles accepted the award with grace and humor while expressing his gratitude for the positive impact his time as a student at Cistercian has had on his life.
Speeches from the evening are available on the Cistercian Dallas YouTube Channel.
Save the Date: West Coast Swing Coming!
Fr. Paul McCormick and Erin Hart had so much fun on their last trip (2015) to visit West Coast alumni, that they have decided to go back this spring. Even better, they are taking Tim Parker '90 on the road with them!
If you live on the West Coast, make plans to join them in April for a happy hour near you. This is a great way to connect with alumni and alumni parents in your area. Details will be forthcoming, but the preliminary schedule is:
- Sunday, April 2
- Los Angeles
- Monday, April 3
- San Francisco
- Tuesday, April 4
Watch for more details, and we hope you will be able to join us. It's going to be great!
